This clip (pardon the quality) of 'Tito' is the best I have found to convey the traditional root of what we now know as 'bellydance'. The dancing and the costuming, yes all covered up with only a hip scarf for emphasis, is true to form. As is the fact that a male is dancing...
The wealth of the poor is in song, dance and story. Under the street-lamps in the new cities the dancers perform with pride in their heritage, curious to see what other traditions bring, struggling to bridge the gap between old dreams and new realities.
Original Choreography: Colin Dunne, Tarik Winston
One of my favourite Ridley Scott productions. The story, the costuming, the production and Ed Norton (another favourite) plays the leper King.
